Janelle knew from a young age that she wanted to paint, but her career took a different path first. She trained in fashion at the Dress Design Studio in East Sydney and worked as a designer for many years, before moving into digital art and illustrating her own range of greeting cards for a decade. It was only after moving to the Central Coast that she was finally able to paint every day in her own studio.
Much of her work has been figurative, drawn from her love of painting the human figure, but her practice keeps evolving. Lately she finds herself drawn more to nature and the environment, inspired by the artists around her, and still learning and growing with every piece.
Janelle's work has picked up plenty of recognition along the way, including Highly Commended at Bloomfields Gallery CCAOTY in 2025, People's Choice at Hardyscapes in 2025, Highly Commended at Artspace in 2023, People's Choice at Small Works Art Studio Coop in 2015, and the Grandma Moses Art Prize, also in 2015.
