Presented by his son, Karl Schurr.
My father, 1927-2021, was born in Coolah, NSW, and moved to Sydney in his late teens to study at the Julian Ashton Art School, where John Olsen and Clem Millward were among his fellow students. He went on to teach art at Meadowbank, Hornsby and Seaforth Technical Colleges for many years, and after retiring he kept running life drawing classes in Manly well into his eighties.
Reg left behind a large collection of pastels and drawings. He rarely worked from a scene in front of him, his landscapes came from imagination. Up close they are repetitive dashes of colour. Step back and they resolve into country you want to walk into.
I've selected a few of these landscapes for the Spotlight Room this month.
Open daily, 10am – 4pm.
